WHAT TO DO FOR DRY SKIN?
- BY DR. AK RANA
Ever got troubled by dry skin? If yes, then you surely are at right place because we are going to understand everything about it.
In this article we are mainly going to pay attention to the dry skin around our cheek areas.
It depends on person to person and with different genetics, we have different skin types and hence different concerns.
These rashes and rough skin which is irritable and sometimes followed by itching and burning sensation is not only a beauty concern, but also hampers our daily life in one way or another.
Firstly, we will talk about what are the factors that may be linked to it and what can we do to treat or to prevent it.
CAUSES OF DRY SKIN
- Genetics – If you are facing this problem, ask around and you will find more people in the family facing the same thing.
- Excessive stress
- Improper sleeping habits
- Hormonal changes
- Too much sun exposure
- High temperature
- Spending too much time in artificial lights.
- Applying too much facewash
- Not moisturizing skin properly
- Not drinking adequate water or dehydration
TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF DRY SKIN
- REDUCE SUN EXPOSURE
When you go out for work, try to carry an umbrella, wear proper clothing.
Avoid going out when heat intensity is too high.
Use ‘sunscreen’ – it protects your skin from harmful sun rays.
- AVOID WASHING YOUR FACE AGAIN AND AGAIN
See, properly washing face removes dirt, bacteria and everything else, along with essential oils.
If your skin is not oily, and you use a facewash that is not for your skin type then it can cause dry skin.
I will suggest you to keep changing your facewash in months, you can repeat your favourites when your list gets over.
It is because ‘some sensitive skin’ gets irritated when we use the ‘same facewash’ in long run.
Also, when your skin is dry, irritable then use ‘soap free’ facewash made for dry and sensitive skin.
You should wash your face by adequate or small quantity but never too much facewash, in order to prevent washing away the essential oils of your skin.
- COMBAT WITH YOUR STRESS
‘Stress’ is an evil to your health.
In this era, we can’t be free of stress all the time; so, there is no point in me telling you to not worry, think or avoid stress completely.
The point is even if you are ‘stressed’ how are you going to stop it from negatively affecting your body.
- Do regular yoga & exercises – it helps by releasing certain neurotransmitters and hormones that give you ‘feel good’ feeling.
- Eat well, sleep well even when you are stressed.
- Write down the points, solve them one by one & for those you can’t solve, take help.
- There are still those worries that you can’t find an answer in your timeline, so leave it to future, you will find a way when time is right.
- The thing is to take small steps and don’t try to solve the complete ladder at once.
- SLEEP AT RIGHT TIME
Follow a proper sleep cycle to sleep and wake up.
Don’t take your work/thoughts/ worries to bed.
Sleep soundly and leave the rest to next day.
- TRY TO SPEND YOUR MAXIMUM TIME IN COOL AND WELL AIRED PLACE
At the time when your skin is too sensitive, it gets irritated when you perspire in the hot weather.
- LIMIT YOUR EXPOSURE TO ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS
Just how too much sunlight is not good, likewise too much light is also not good.
Although these days most of the work is done indoors with good illumination; still take breaks by switching off the lights whenever you can.
If possible, try to work more at a place where there is natural light.
- USE A GOOD MOISTURIZER
Use a moisturizer for dry skin, and apply it adequately.
It means not too much & nor too less, just the right amount.
When you will apply it daily, you will slowly know the right amount that is required by your skin.
I will also suggest you to change your moisturizer in months and not using the ‘same one’ all the time.
- DRINK ADEQUATE WATER
Its like water is a cure to all the things that you will mention. It keeps a balance between various elements of our body.
Keep the body cool, hydrated and flush out all the bad toxins from the body.
- USING ICE TO CALM DOWN IRRITATED AND ITCHY SKIN
Ice can be rubbed over irritated skin for 1-2 minutes with breaks in between.
It provides great relief, and can be done on alternate days or as you feel like.
Still, check for yourself if it helps you or not because it can also vary.
- KEEP YOUR HAIRS NICELY TIED UP
In case of sensitive skin, when your hairs rub the face, they irritate the skin more.
So, during this time use clutches, rubber bands to keep hairs tied up properly.
Having a dry skin is not a big concern and can be handled properly.
Just be patient and work for it, it will be alright with the time.
Although dry skin is not usually related to other medical conditions but if at any point of time, you feel like visiting a doctor, then you should not delay it.
See the expert and follow their guidance likewise.
Everyone has different skin types, so don’t worry about it.
Its just a little drop in a big sea, don’t let it bother you too much.
“It’s the overall health that matters,
Skin is also a part of it.”
