5 Simple Steps to Take Charge of Your Health Starting Today

- By Dr. AK Rana
This World Health Day, make one promise to yourself:
..
“I will take care of my health.”
It sounds simple, right?
We all know it.
But how many of us actually do it?
How many of us act on it, consistently?
..
“I’ll start tomorrow…”
And that tomorrow never comes.
Deep down,
we know it’s not okay.
We know we should take care of our health.
..
But the real challenge is: how to take the first step?
Take it today.
On this World Health Day, take your very first step toward a healthier, happier life.
And then… make it a habit.
Because a habit doesn’t form in one day.
It becomes part of your routine—something you follow no matter what.
A good habit will make you dependent on it, just like bad ones do.
So why not choose the good ones?
Now, when it comes to health, the internet is flooded with advice. Thousands of tips.
It’s overwhelming.
So where to begin?
Let’s start with the basics.
..
The foundation of a healthier life.
Something everyone knows—only a few actually follow.
—
1. Exercise daily – minimum 30 minutes.
“I don’t have time!”
Out of 24 hours, give just 30 minutes to your body. That’s not too much to ask.
Don’t know where to find the time? Try switching off your phone. You’ll be surprised how much time appears.
Include stretches, jogging, walking, yoga—whatever suits your body and age. Create a routine.
Stick to it.
NOTE: You don’t need a gym.
You can work out at home. (Excuse #1: busted!)
—
2. Sleep for at least 6 hours daily. – Health tip 2
Your brain and body need to recharge.
Without rest, even machines overheat. So do we.
—
3. Never skip breakfast. – Health tip 3
Heading to work or logging in from home—eat.
No weight loss trick should make you skip meals.
Skipping breakfast puts stress on your heart, and is not good for its health.
Eat all meals—breakfast, lunch, supper, dinner.
…
What and how much you eat can be optimized,
but skipping meals is not the way.
—
4. Drink water. Lots of it.
In fact, pause reading—go drink a glass of water right now.
Come back hydrated.
—
5. Move on. For your mental health.
You know exactly what this means.
Whether it’s regret, heartbreak, or negativity—move on.
…
Not everything is in your control. All you can do is your best.
The outcome?
Never in your hands.
Stop clinging to what hurts.
Let go.
And take that first step towards a healthier life.
—
Your health is your responsibility.
Just like your happiness.
No one else can do it for you.
So this World Health Day, take that first step. And then keep walking.
Happy World Health Day!
Wishing you strength, peace, and a lifetime of good health.
