5 Reasons that make Lando Norris Struggle for Pole

- By Dr. AK Rana
Lando Norris has lately looked more disappointed than ever with his own performance.
People are beginning to say McLaren has the best car on the grid—the fastest machine.
And while Oscar Piastri keeps delivering solid results, Lando keeps getting stuck behind.
But is he underperforming?
No.
Is he the only one performing at the top?
Also no—because no one in Formula 1 shows up to sit idle.
This season’s grid is insanely close. A single mistake, a drift, a moment of hesitation—and you’re out of contention.
Lando has been chasing pole relentlessly.
Three races now—he’s been right there.
Twice behind his own teammate, once behind Max Verstappen. It’s not that Lando isn’t fast—it’s just that this season, pole position is everything.
In a McLaren that is genuinely capable of winning, track position becomes king.
And when McLaren has to pick one strategy to favor, they’re going with the driver who’s ahead after Turn One.
That’s the brutal truth.
Why is Lando Norris —one of the best qualifiers we’ve seen—not able to snatch pole?
1. Because he’s making mistakes. But why?
2. Because his teammate is doing phenomenally well—and when a third-year is outqualifying a seven-year, people talk.
3. Because McLaren wasn’t always this good when Lando first came in.
4. Because Oscar Piastri is genuinely on fire in that orange rocket.
5. And because, deep down, Lando blames himself.
Not the car.
Not the team.
Just himself.
Because he’s that kind of driver.
He wants to be better.
He needs to be better.
And when qualifying doesn’t go his way, it eats at him.
But here’s the thing: in F1, the margin for error is milliseconds.
And those milliseconds decide everything.
A tiny twitch of understeer, a brake too early, a line missed by inches—can be the difference between pole and P6.
The pressure is enormous.
Especially when your fiercest competitor is in the same garage, driving the same machinery.
But you don’t lose because of a tenth or two.
You lose the moment you start doubting yourself.
And Lando—if you’re reading this (or even if you’re not)—take a deep breath.
Breathe in.
And then breathe out—slowly.
Repeat it four or five times.
Because that calm? That peace? That’s what brings back the champion in you.
Don’t be hard on yourself.
We all make mistakes.
Learn from them.
Then move on.
That’s how you grow.
One bad Saturday doesn’t erase your entire journey.
You’re better than you were yesterday—and you’ll be better tomorrow.
Because when you believe in yourself, no one else can take that away.
The track is yours.
The time is in your hands.
And no shadow of doubt should be allowed to linger in your head.
..
You lose when you question your ability.
Train.
Learn.
Grow.
But never stop trusting yourself.
..
It’s okay if we don’t see you smile all the time—we get it.
We really do.
Life’s not always perfect.
But when we see you doubt yourself—that’s when it hurts most.
Because we believe in you, Lando Norris.
And we hope you do too.
All the best for your next race.
