AK RANA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ASD (autism spectrum disorder) is a developmental disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People with ASD interact, learn, talk in a way that\u2019s different from others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASD varies a lot and the exact reasons are not known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It includes \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Autism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kanner syndrome<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rett syndrome (seen exclusively in females)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asperger syndrome<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heller syndrome<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the cause of ASD varies from genetic causes to others that we don\u2019t know yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of them may be able to speak fluently, others might not speak even a line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some may have very high IQ, others very low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some may work and support themselves while others need full support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, autism (now called ASD) differs from one person to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>ONSET OF ASD<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ASD begins before the <strong><u>age of 3 years <\/u><\/strong>and remains throughout the life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not a disease that you can cure, it stays, however symptoms might improve as the child grows up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In school\/college they face difficulties in making friends or communicating with others or to express their views clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Autism is more common in boys than in girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If one child is diagnosed with autism, there is higher chances for next child to also have ASD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>CHILD WITH AUTISM<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They find it difficult to interact with other people (even more with strangers).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learning the language is very important skill for communication and expression. They have delayed language development or absent in some cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When we smile or show gestures or do eye contact, this is a type of non-verbal communication. They find it difficult to understand or to use it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Repetitive motor behaviours may be present like flapping arms or repetitive speech etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When they are interested in a topic or thing, they get keenly engaged in that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People with autism want their surroundings or routine to be same always. They don\u2019t like any disturbances in that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sensory aversions are also seen like not being able to tolerate loud noises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/halleysclinic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-768x1024.png\" alt=\"autism\n\nhalleys clinic\" class=\"wp-image-193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/halleysclinic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-768x1025.png 768w, https:\/\/halleysclinic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/halleysclinic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image-600x800.png 600w, https:\/\/halleysclinic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/image.png 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>NORMAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILD<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AGE <\/strong>=\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MILESTONE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 month = child gets alert to sound<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 months = social smile<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 months = recognize her mother<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4 months = laughs aloud<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6 months = produce monosyllables sound like ma, pa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is stranger anxiety in the child<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9 months = says disyllables like mama, dada<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waves bye- bye<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12 months = when called, comes towards you and play simple ball games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18 months = vocabulary of 8-10 words<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copy their parents in the task<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 years = starts using pronouns like I, me, you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask you for food, water, washroom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 years = starts asking questions, know her full name and gender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shares toys with others<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In autism, smile or joyful expressions are not shown by the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They can hear your voice but don\u2019t respond or look at you when you call their names or seek their attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They don\u2019t show any gesture like waving their hands, playing small games with you. Even after 1 year of age, they are not babbling or saying any word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>DIAGNOSIS OF AUTISM<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is not one perfect test for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a series of observation and evaluation on both sides \u2013 parents and the healthcare expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By regular monitoring, filling questionnaires, maintaining checklist \u2013 a diagnosis is reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>TREATMENT<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no specific cure for autism. Every child with ASD is special and require individualized treatment plan which needs to be modified according to age and needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is developed by professionals which help in developing skills and tackling the core deficits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-blush-light-purple-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>A STORY TO SHARE<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I once visited an office for some work, and met one person, she was very nicely dressed and keenly working on her files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would have not known if I hadn\u2019t tried to ask her about my issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was nothing wrong in her talking, she instead solved my concern in much more detail than anyone else over there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am little poor in technical stuff, so it became quite easy to get my work done with her guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw some of her colleagues laughing or making fun of her (I know not everyone do so, but there are still some people like them.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might have bothered her, and I felt sad to see that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before coming back, I sincerely thanked her, she gave me no reply and returned back to her seat; getting busy with her work again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who are capable of working and are trying their best, instead of showing our support, we should never do the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not like people with autism don\u2019t have feelings or emotions. They know who cares for them, although they might not know how to act in that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a family, it might be hard for you because you love them and it hurts to see them like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s the frustration that takes over on your hopes to see them getting better or their symptoms getting improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It needs a great deal of patience, love, and strength to move ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s necessary to stay in contact with counsellors and experts in the concerned field. They can guide in the matters that you might find hard to tackle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other note,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We should respect, love, and treat them as a normal human being.
