AK RANA<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Blood pressure is the pressure in the blood vessels through which blood flows throughout the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Systolic BP \u2013 Pressure in blood vessels when heart contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diastolic BP \u2013 Pressure in blood vessels when heart rests in between the beats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High blood pressure is called hypertension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\"><strong><u>GRADES OF HYPERTENSION<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 systolic blood pressure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 diastolic blood pressure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OPTIMAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 less than 120 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 less than 80 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NORMAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 120 to 129 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 80 to 84 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HIGH NORMAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 130 to 139 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 85 to 89 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GRADE 1 HYPERTENSION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 140 to 159 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 90 to 99 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GRADE 2 HYPERTENSION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SBP \u2013 160 to 179 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP \u2013 100 to 109 mmHg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BP has to be checked twice on different days or to make a record for coming to a conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its very normal for blood pressure to fluctuate, at different times of day, while we sit, walk, run or sleep, or when we strain ourselves or spend sleepless nights due to overdue work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to WHO, <strong>46% of adults<\/strong> with hypertension are unaware that they have the condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If left untreated high BP can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can have high BP for years without any symptoms, that\u2019s why it is called a silent killer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people on the other hand experiences headaches, shortness of breath, blurred vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-amber-to-luminous-vivid-orange-gradient-background has-background\">Hypertension (HTN) can be of two types \u2013<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Primary HTN\/ Essential hypertension<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>With the age BP increases and is because of various reasons, including <strong><em>Atherosclerosis <\/em><\/strong>(plaque buildup in arteries).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the most common hypertension that we see around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Secondary HTN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It occurs secondary to something like adrenal tumors, congenital heart defects, some pain relievers, oral contraceptive pills (OCPs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-blush-light-purple-gradient-background has-background\"><strong>RISK FACTORS FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Age \u2013 BP increases with age<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Family history \u2013 If parents or siblings have HTN, you need to be extra careful, as it is a strong risk factor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Obesity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lack of exercise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tobacco \u2013 in any form be it chewing or smoking, it is injurious to blood vessel walls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased salt intake \u2013 sodium causes retention of fluid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Low potassium \u2013 due to low intake in diet or due to dehydration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Potassium balances the amount of salt in cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Excess alcohol intake<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stress, especially the one that is continuous for days together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pregnancy (PIH \u2013 pregnancy induced hypertension)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-pink-background-color has-background\"><strong>COMPLICATIONS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heart attack or stroke<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rupture of <em>aneurysm<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>High BP causes weakening of blood vessels, making a bulge which if rupture, can be life threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Left ventricular hypertrophy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased force is required by heart to pump blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can further lead to heart failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Damages kidney<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continuously raised BP can leads to thickening, tortuous blood vessels in eyes \u2013 can cause loss of vision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-light-green-cyan-to-vivid-green-cyan-gradient-background has-background\"><strong>TREATMENT<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Diuretics to remove extra water from body includes Hydrochlorothiazide, Chlorthalidone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ACE inhibitors to relax blood vessels includes Enalapril, Lisinopril.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Angiotensin \u2013 2 receptor blockers (ARBs) include Losartan, Telmisartan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CCBs (calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To improve cardiovascular health in countries across the has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\"><strong><u>PREVENTION OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lifestyle changes like eating a healthier diet.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoiding excessive salt consumption, food rich in saturated and trans fats for example, eating burgers, pizzas on daily basis, and overloading it with \u2018extra cheese\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inculcate habit of eating more fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eat banana, brinjals, and spinach which are good sources of potassium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Doing regularly yoga and exercises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Quit tobacco and regulate drinking habits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engage in physical activities like walking, running, swimming or build strengths like lifting weights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As per WHO guidelines-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strength building exercises 2 or more days each week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Losing weight in case of being overweight or obese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vajrasana (Diamond pose)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can sit in this pose for 5- 10 minutes after food or on empty stomach or at any time in day while watching TV etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is good for digestion, improves sleep and most importantly controls blood pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being very easy to do and not requiring any extra time, you should try to include it in your daily routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce weight, by following healthy diet, avoiding extra calories and doing regular yoga and exercises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid stress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do meditation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take 6-8 hours good sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete work with planning and schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take breakfast on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you are diagnosed with high BP-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take medications on time, don\u2019t say you are not having symptoms or you are just fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never miss your medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As BP affects our internal organs slowly and silently and can damage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of very high BP (usually 180\/120 or higher can experience symptoms like headache, nausea, anxiety, confusion, buzzing in the ear, blurred vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an emergency situation, and you need to consult your doctor as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To check your blood pressure regularly is the best way to know if you have high BP or to keep a check on your increasing BP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also important for giving a warning to modify lifestyle and check or improve your blood pressure record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A rough sketch to tell you what vajrasana looks
