E10 is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Environmentally better<\/strong>: The ethanol portion is renewable and cuts greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Engine-safe<\/strong>: Current turbo-hybrid V6 engines are designed to work with E10 efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Regulation-friendly: FIA\u2019s target is a fully sustainable fuel by 2026. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>E10 is the transitional step.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Did F1 Use Before E10?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a pit stop into history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pre-2000s: Wild West of Race Fuel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in the day, F1 fuels were closer to rocket science than regular petrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams had incredible freedom to brew their own fuel cocktails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some used benzene-rich blends, exotic hydrocarbons, and oxygenates to spike power output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Early 2000s\u20132021: Premium Racing Gasoline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As F1 became more regulated and environmentally conscious, the fuel used became much closer to commercial gasoline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FIA limited the number of compounds and required fuels to be homologated (approved).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, fuels were finely tuned \u2014 teams worked with suppliers like Shell, Petronas, and Mobil 1 to engineer fuels that burned cleaner, faster, and hotter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Shift to E10 in 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 season introduced E10, marking a key shift toward sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethanol became mandatory to make up 10% of the fuel content. This required a rethink in combustion strategy and engine mapping because ethanol has a different energy density and burns characteristic compared to pure gasoline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;Why Not Use Jet Fuel or Something More Powerful?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Good question! Here\u2019s the science:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Jet fuel (kerosene-based) has low octane and burns slower.
